It’s been an emotional week since my last ‘life lesson’. As some of you may know the Euro 2012 football (soccer) finals are taking place in Poland/Ukraine and as usual every man, woman and child from England has been on the edge of their seats waiting to cheer our boys to the victory. Problem is, England are crap, but every 4 years we all decide to conveniently ‘forget’ this small detail and convince ourselves we have it ‘in the bag’ and that victory is a mere formality. This year was no exception. We drew with France (not bad), beat Sweden (just), beat the Ukraine (it is only Ukraine after all) and then someway predictably, lost to Italy on penalties. To add insult to injury, the fact that we’re the other side of the world means we have to watch the games on laptops or in hotel rooms at 8am. All that effort, scheduling, re-arranging of interviews….for Ashley bloody Cole to kick it straight ay the keepers feet. What a pleb.
We have also played our first proper ‘corporate’ gig. (That’s right we’ve sold out). Samsung asked us to fly to Baltimore and play for a party they were having. Corporate events are usually good because they usually pay well, but add in the fact that we’d be playing alongside early 90’s funk/rock gods the Spin Doctors, and it’s Christmas come early! The show was a great success, we had a really fun night and you’ll all be pleased to know that he still does the scatting bit at the end of the chorus, and it’s still awesome.
Quote of the week comes from our guitarist Matthew Baxter. Once again, it needs no explanation… As he climbs into the van at 7am on our way to a radio interview he decides to proclaim “God, it was hard getting out of bed this morning’.
Good dream was it Matthew?
P.S. . We now have Scars on 45 signature sticks. The company that makes my sticks (Vic Firth) were kind enough to make some for us, and we were kind enough to sign them. They’re available to buy at all our live shows…
