Throw me a fishbone!
It’s not often we get a full day off in this band. Any day without a show is usually a travel day or we do radio stuff. Not only was yesterday a day off, but the radio station put us up in this gorgeous condo on the beach in Gulf Shores! Oh yeah, and there was a women’s beach volleyball tournament on as well. It’s a hard life.
However, our weekend in paradise very nearly came to a decidedly sticky end. We nearly lost Danny to a shark. There he is, our fearless leader (if he were a Ninja Turtle he’d be Leonardo) paddling in the sea on his own, when some guy starts shouting “shark…shark”. Danny didn’t hear this and by coincidence decided this was the moment he’d chose to finally brave the cold water and dive in head first. Turns out the shark was only the size of a tennis racket, but it made Dan look like he had balls of steel nonetheless.
We played a show at the Hangout bar right on the beach just up the road from our lovely beach house. It’s Hangout Festival in a few weeks with some really great bands playing (my pick of the bunch is Dawes…check out their song ‘Little Bit of Everything”, beautiful). Anyway, we were there to play a Road to the Hangout show which leads the build up for the main weekend. Much fun was had by all with some serious fish platters being consumed, as well as a few strawberry daiquiri’s.
I feel its important to own up to your own faults as a human being, no matter how embarrassing they may be. So right here, right now I want to admit something to all 5 people that read this blog (one of which as we already know is President Obama)… I can’t throw. Simple as that. To say I throw like a girl would be a compliment to me and extremely insulting all women across he planet. I swear I used to be good at it, but it seems I peaked in my younger years and am now the shell of my former throwing glory. Aimee tried to teach me last week with little success…I cannot be taught. On the other hand though, I’m actually a pretty decent frisbee thrower and it appears I can cartwheel better than my girlfriend…so thats ok.
On our way to Austin now for the start of the Ingrid Michaelson tour. It’s all sold out so we’re really excited, its a great chance for us to meet a new audience that may not know us. Wish us luck!!
Bye for now! x
Having written this blog I’ve decided I like the ninja turtle references. So… Danny is Leonardo, Nova is Michaelangelo, Stu is Donatello and Aimee is Raphael. And yes, that makes me Splinter…their master and wisest of them all. :-p
